A Father's Prayer for His Family and Country

Author: Bud Wright

We are currently living in anxious times. The economy has tanked causing hardships for so many families and businesses, creating concerns regarding job security, reducing the savings accounts of so many. In addition more and more people that we know and love are facing serious health issues. Still others are dealing with significant spiritual and emotional challenges. On top of that, our country is on the cusp of an election in which people are sharply divided about the direction our government should go. Apart from Christ, it is enough to discourage anyone. But let us pray through the promises of the powerful Word of God where we can again find comfort and hope.

“Father, in Philippians 4:6-7, you remind us not to be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving to present our requests to You. And we are comforted that Your peace which transcends all understanding will guard our hearts, souls and minds in Christ Jesus.

You remind us in Matthew 6 not to worry about our lives; in fact, you remind us not to worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. None of us, by worrying, can add a single hour to our lives.

James encourages us to consider it all joy when we encounter trials so that the testing of our faith will produce perseverance, making us mature and complete. Father, I admit that only through the power of the Holy Spirit working within me can I consider these hard times I face a joy! Forgive us when we look to the network news to bring us hope, and seem surprised and frustrated not to find it there.

Accordingly, Father, I pray that all of us would yield our own thoughts and concerns to those of the Holy Spirit and with a faith devoid of any doubt, find peace and joy in You regardless of circumstances. Thank you for the grace and love You show us-we know we don’t deserve it!

Father, we also pray that our country would turn to You and that You would protect and encourage the brave men and women who put themselves in harm’s way to protect us.

We pray for our missionaries, that you would cover them with Your protection and provide for them spiritually, emotionally and financially. We pray that we would stand in the gap for them as they bring Christ to the nations.

God, Your kingdom come. We await Your return with joy and hope.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
