Winds of Change Bring God's Hope in 2010

"He (God)  changes times and seasons" (Daniel 2:21)

God will help us to make this a year of positive change! In order to change, we have to want more than better sameness. Changes usually involve either trials or challenges. Jesus said, "In the world you'll have tribulation, but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world." (John 16:33). Can you imagine that difficulties will shape us into better people?

Some of these trials blindside us. Have a plan or “default” for when you’re blindsided:

1. Pray .  “He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; He will not despise their plea” (Psalm 102:17).

2. Assume the best in people.  "He who seeks good finds goodwill, but evil comes to him who searches for it" (Proverbs 11:27).

3. Talk to friends and ask for prayer.  “If two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.  For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:19).

4. Talk to people in the know that you trust.  “But many advisors make victory sure (Proverbs 11:14b).

Some trials we can see coming. The writer to the Hebrews teaches in Hebrews 2:8 – “In putting everything under Him, God left nothing that is not subject to Him.  Yet at present we do not SEE everything subject to him.  BUT WE SEE JESUS.”

Here’s a plan when you can see the trial coming:

1. Stand on the word of God.  Isaiah 42:3 has always been an encouragement:   “A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out”( Isaiah 42:3).

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

2. Think “Change/No Change.”  Look at what stability you DO have in your life and concentrate on nurturing it.  “Strengthen the things that remain” (Revelation 3:2).

3. Ask God to lead you as you face the maze.  “Who, then, is the man that fears the Lord?  He will instruct him in the way chosen for him” (Psalm 25:12).

4. Ask for prayer.  “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.  The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective” (James 5:16).
