Bruised Hearts Often Emit the Sweetest Fragrance

by Roger Barrier

Without warning, Job loses everything, including his children. But Job does not sin or curse God. Instead he teaches us that afflictions will come, and we must trace them ultimately to God. God owns the right to give and to take away, so we must hold everything loosely. Trials provide insight into our spiritual lives, opportunities to express our faithfulness and submission to God. Job endures every calamity with God’s strength. So can we.

“The basic theme and teaching foundation for this sermon are from the sermon on Job 1:12-22 preached by Chuck Swindoll in his 2002 Series on the Book of Job. I have attempted to take a slightly different perspective and set of conclusions as well as add additional relevant stories and illustrations.
