Rest: Acceptance

Matt 11:28-30

G: Rest begins with acceptance. Matt 11:28-30

J: Culture desperately in need of rest of all kinds. TIME is the most

significant commodity. Queen Elizabeth: “all my possessions for a

moment in time.”

We were promised more time! The economist John Maynard

Keynes in 1930 predicted 15 hour work weeks for his grandchildren.

A senate subcommittee in 1960 predicted 14 hour work weeks by

2000.

G: Camping story: disconnect from rat race. Series Rest: Slow Down,

Simplicity, Sabbath. Today, relational rest. Begins with acceptance.

Restlessness is a search for acceptance, approval, significance,

meaning.

J: Matt 11:25 Prayer; 11:27 Father: eternity of glory

Father/Son/Spirit.

G: Search for acceptance: funeral story.

J: Jesus/Father: validated: Mt 3:17: if Jesus needed to hear it, we

do! Story of All Stars.

G: Son: tested, worshiped, Peter’s confession. Matt 17:5.

J: Matt 11:27: foundational passage: prayer = relationship, rest.

G: Matt 11:28: Come to me: only way to the Father.

Labor/heavy laden: John Odam/Insecurities. Rest and Father.

Rest and Father. Acceptance, approval, encouragement, respect,

meaning, significance, comfort, security.

J: Matt 11:29: Gentle and Lowly in heart/toxic masculinity.

Dangerous when wedded with Xy. Rest for your souls. Have you

experienced X? Have you experienced his rest?

G: Matt 11:30: Yoke, rest not passive. Active. Earn, accept, impress,

approval now lower bar. Matt 5:48: Jesus, gift, rest, enter.

J: Altar call: God at arm’s length. Christian who has been trying to

earn acceptance. Are you worn out? Commit to finding your rest in

Christ.

Rest is not passive, it’s active. We must accept his grace and strength and rest upon Him. Give your burdens to Christ and experience His peace.
