Be Kind at Home
People can be perturbing. Marriage and family life would be a lot less stressful if husbands and children didn’t sometimes act irresponsibly or disregard our feelings or instructions. Ministry would go more smoothly and be less demanding if people weren’t so needy or would just get their act together. Many of the issues we face in our jobs would go away if it weren’t for inexperienced coworkers, demanding clients, or impatient customers. Yes, people may cause the lion’s share of our...

How to Heal from Betrayal
A while back, I received this desperate text from a hurting friend. She had discovered that some ministry leaders she greatly admired and who had played a significant role in her spiritual growth had been leading a double life—teaching one thing while covering a blatantly ungodly lifestyle. Sleepless night. I am angry; I am hurt; I am scared; I am in unbelief and a host of other things. Been thinking all night how everything I believed was a lie and how I am a fool and realizing how the last...

Why and How Should I Praise God?
He is aliiiiive! He is aliiiiive!"  It was Easter Sunday morning. My five-year-old nephew was to be baptized that day. "Nana" had flown into town to share in the occasion. As the family was getting ready for church, she heard little "Mookie's" unmistakable voice coming from the bathroom down the hall. She quietly slipped into the hallway to see what was happening. There stood the child, on a step stool in front of the mirror, carefully combing his hair, then straightening his shirt and pants,...

Mentoring Others
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4  Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5  to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. Titus 2:3-5 NIV. We need each other! It’s true, regardless of our age, our marital status, or how long we may have known the...

Building Up One Another
As a child of God, you have a very special relationship with other Christians. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians pictures this relationship in two different ways. First, every believer is a member of the Body of Christ. His Body has many members, each of which is essential. Paul says that every member of the Body must grow up and work together. We are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is...

Hope for Uncertain Times
Seasons of adversity—economic or otherwise—do not catch God off guard. He knows everything that is going on in our world. He also knows what lies ahead. He is orchestrating all things to fulfill His eternal, redemptive purposes and to glorify Himself. God cares about how adverse circumstances affect the lives of His children. Those circumstances may be intense and painful at times, but they do not have to overwhelm us or steal our peace. In fact, in the ultimate sense,  anything that makes...
