Elisha: Being With God
II Kings 13:14-21 When Elisha became sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over him and said, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” And Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and arrows.” So he took a bow and arrows. Then Elisha said to the king of Israel, “Lay your hand on the bow.” And he laid his hand on it, then Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands. And he said, “Open the window toward the east,” and he...

Elisha & Insurmountable Problems
II Kings 6:8-23 Now the king of Aram was making war against Israel, and he consulted with his servants, saying, “In such and such a place shall be my camp.” But the man of God sent word to the king of Israel, saying, “Be careful that you do not pass this place, because the Arameans are coming down there.” And the king of Israel sent scouts to the place about which the man of God had told him; so he warned him, so that he was on his guard there, more than once or twice. Now the heart of the...

Elisha: Gehazi, Generosity & Greed
II Kings 5:15-27 WHERE WE’VE COME FROM Let’s remember where we’ve come from since our last lesson. Naaman, a trusted general in the Aram army, was afflicted with leprosy. With the support of his king, he sought the help of the prophet Elisha to heal his leprosy. When Elisha told him to dip himself seven times in the Jordan River to be healed, Naaman was furious. His pride, power, and prestige had blocked his way, but when his servants encouraged him to obey the prophet’s words, he dipped...

Elisha: Healing Naaman
II Kings 5:1-14 What kinds of things can you accomplish with power and prestige? Now Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man in the view of his master, and eminent, because by him the LORD had given victory to Aram. The man was also a valiant warrior, but afflicted with leprosy. Now the Arameans had gone out in bands and had taken captive a little girl from the land of Israel; and she waited on Naaman’s wife. And she said to her mistress, “If only my master were...

Elisha: Miracles of Food
II Kings 4:38-44 WHAT PERSPECTIVE OR ATTITUDE DO YOU FIND YOURSELF TAKING DURING DIFFICULT TIMES? 38When Elisha returned to Gilgal, there was a famine in the land. As the sons of the prophets were sitting in front of him, he said to his servant, “Put on the large pot and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.” 39Then one went out into the field to gather mallow, and found a wild vine and gathered from it his lap full of wild gourds; and he came and sliced them into the pot of stew, because...

Elisha & the Shunammite
II Kings 4:8-37 WHY IS EXPRESSING OUR FAITH IN GOD SO IMPORTANT? 8Now a day came when Elisha went over to Shunem, where there was a prominent woman, and she urged him to eat food. And so it was, as often as he passed by, that he turned in there to eat food. 9And she said to her husband, “Behold now, I am aware that this is a holy man of God passing by us repeatedly. 10Please, let’s make a little walled upper room, and let’s set up a bed for him there, and a table, a chair, and a lampstand;...

Elisha & the Widow
II Kings 4:1-7 WHAT PLACE DOES MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE LESS FORTUNATE HAVE IN YOUR LIFE? Now a woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD; and the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves.” 2So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.” 3Then he...
